Job Advert Description

Survitec are seeking a Product Designer who will be responsible for Marine safety equipment and water sport garment products.  This role will support New Product Development within the dynamic design department and multi-site production facilities.

Role responsibilities:

  • Establish robust project brief through research and market intelligence.
  • Design and engineer marine safety products, marine clothing and associated products.
  • Work with fabrics, inflatable structures, inflation mechanisms.
  • Work to strict product approval and testing requirements to internationally recognized standards.
  • Work to brand guidelines.
  • Work closely with purchasing teams ensuring product specification are precisely detailed and correct.
  • Work with quality teams to ensure products are delivered and made to the standard required.
  • Work with design teams ensuring product specifications are detailed and appropriate for manufacture.
  • Help facilitate right first time every time.
  • Responsible for understanding and conveying design through to production; at any site required.
  • Develop SOP’s (standard operating procedure) and support product structures/routings.
  • Liaise with manufacturing sites to implement product hand over.
  • Liaise with tooling suppliers & designing or specification of calibrated inspection tools/devices.
  • Ensure manufacturing procedures, and all test procedures as appropriate are carried out.
  • Maintain good understanding of materials and manufacturing technologies.
  • Follow and adhere to QMS processes.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in a similar role, preferably an experienced product designer or engineer.
  • Ability to detail and convey engineering information and design ideas.
  • Be a team player with a focus on customer requirements.
  • Ability to present and motivate personnel in both formal and informal situations.
  • Able to demonstrate effective project management skills and cost control with the ability to work to strict deadlines and targets.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Competent illustration / CAD / graphic skills.
  • IT skills including AutoCAD, Adobe suite, Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook CorelDraw, and Project.
  • Be creative and innovative, with a keen eye for style and detail.
  • Good understanding of fit, form and function.
  • Be conversant in a range of manufacturing techniques within the garment sector.
