Infrastructure Team Lead (Technical)

We currently wish to appoint an Infrastructure Team Lead who will head up our infrastructure team, which is part of our Global IT department. Survitec is investing in its platform and infrastructure to provide the stability and flexibility the business needs and achieve our strategy of a central global IT function.

This role will navigate the team through our exciting roadmap of work, including a Global WAN rollout and a migration to the cloud (Azure).

The Infrastructure Team Lead will establish and improve BAU process ensuring the platform is maintained to ensure peak performance, whilst working closely with our SOC team to continuously improve security and reach and maintain the levels of compliance needed.    

The Infrastructure Team Lead, role is technically hands-on and would suit an individual from a technical background with leadership qualities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Management of the Infrastructure Team
  • Excellent Communicator, acting as full source of information regarding the whole platform
  • Governance, ensuring all security models are adhered to and continually improved
  • Security controls authority on Access Management in least privilege environment
  • Ensure that all systems are performing at optimal levels, liaising with external service providers where necessary
  • Vendor Management and working closely with outsource partners to continually improve service
  • Monitoring and maintenance of the security, integrity and performance of core systems and backup services
  • Compliance Reporting and remediating
  • Work collaboratively with the Architecture team, SOC team and Project management team offering input on solution designs where appropriate
  • Responsibility of delivery of infrastructure improvements and resourcing projects

The Person/Skills required:

  • Can do attitude demonstrating and influencing the rest of the team with innovation and energy
  • Proven experience of working in a dynamic IT environment, able to prioritise tasks effectively and adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate at both a technical and a non-technical level and the ability to convey clear meaning in either writing or in person
  • High quality documentation skills to support all infrastructure, including writing BAU process and improving current process and procedure as the platform evolves and mentor the rest of the Team to write documentation to a high standard
  • Ability to identify potential risks and issues, and formulate an effective mitigation strategy whilst adhering to Security standards
  • Ability to work as part of a global team, balancing the needs of global policies versus regional requirements
  • Effective time management skills, ensures that tasks and projects are completed within agreed timescales
  • Ability to work within budgets and cost solutions from an infrastructure perspective adding value or cost savings wherever possible
  • Strong customer service ethos
  • Self-motivated. Able to work independently or collaboratively as the situation demands
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply adopted knowledge in real world scenarios
  • Flexibility to work out of hours to support or implement changes to minimise disruption to the business

  • A keen interest and knowledge of current and emerging technologies

Essential Criteria:

Good knowledge in the following Technical Skills:

  • Windows Server (administration /OS builds /Patching and Management)
  • Active Directory – on premise and Azure
  • Azure
  • Office 365
  • Networking including management of network appliances such as switches, routers, firewalls
  • Knowledge of one or more scripting languages e.g. PowerShell, VBScript
  • Good understanding of MS stack

Strong understanding in the following Infrastructure processes:

  • Capacity Management
  • Change Management
  • Release Management
  • Performance reporting


  • Hands on experience in delivering products and services working at a strategic level
  • Working to ITIL v3 standards
  • Previous leadership experience preferably in Infrastructure

Desirable Criteria:

Knowledge in the following:

  • SCCM
  • Intune
  • Exchange
  • Cyber Essentials
  • Citrix XenApp
  • Load Balancing / Failover Clusters
  • SharePoint – on premise / online
  • Microsoft SQL


  • Graduate calibre with MCSE, VCP and CCNA certification highly desirable
